re: Ascension Newsletter November 2017

Since Last Time

November brought back some memories and gave many a player time to enjoy their Thanksgiving. It did not however give much by way of the upcoming raid, nonetheless, here's what we saw since last edition.

The Game

Landscape Ash Farms have received a serious nerf. Check out the new hotspot at Faushum Tum or ask around in kin for those nooks and crannys few know and even fewer go to.

SSG Has completed build 4 of the 21.3 update containing The Abyss of Mordath raid, small changes to the current instance 'cluster' and PVMP, take a look at the most recent notes here

The Harvest Festival came and went and came back. It'll be sticking around until Dec 10th.

SSG has released an Executive Producer's Letter regarding the roadmap for the next year of LoTRO. Take a look here and tell us what you think.

The Kin

Ascension Welcomes its November recruits;

Misdirection

Bolliwollie

Vaerethir

Ascension fully Welcomes back some old friends this month as well, say hi to;

Tangwystl

Manabu

The Administration has finished the raid policies and done some tremendous work on preparing for the upcoming raid. Special thanks to our beta testing group for all of the information they have brought back.

Not sure when you're going to be online? Got Friends in kin but stuck in a solo instance? Itching for a karaoke raid with Joe or want to run laps on the Court of Celeborn with Lith? Join us in Discord. If you do not have Discord you can download it here. Check the in-game message of the day for the server info. Hope to See you there, we've got pancakes!

What to Expect

The Game

While the Harvestmath is staying until Dec 10th, SSG has a few other events lined up like the Yule Festival. They're not the only ones though, check out these links for the Lotro Event Schedule and upcoming events from the fanbase.

Without an announced release date for The Abyss of Mordath, speculation abounds, but the most common estimates peg the live launch for either the 5th or the 12th of December. While this still seems premature, time is quickly counting down.

The Kin

Ascension will host two raid council meeting in the coming weeks. The first being this upcoming weekend on Sunday, December 3rd from 9 PM to 11 PM Eastern Standard Time. This council will convene to discuss some more raid specific policies such as possible loot systems and a raid schedule. Every member is encouraged to make their interest known if they wish to participate as this council is not limited to Officers and Advisors.

These next few weeks are all about prepping for the raid and what is come after. Feel free to reach out and start a discussion about what is needed, when and in what quantity. Much has been done, but there is still more to do.

Ascension Raid Policy and Practices

by The Administration

Ascension has distinguished itself across the Arkenstone raiding community, not only for our success in clearing challenging content, but for the attitudes and practices of our players. Raiding is a privilege, something only achievable when 12 people agree to work together, and maintaining an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual dedication is key to success. Although there will be exceptions and real life emergencies should always take priority, we expect our raiders to demonstrate the following behaviors a majority of the time:

PUNCTUALITY & PRESENCE

Being punctual isn’t just about being on time, nor does it end when the raid begins. A punctual raider is ready for an invite by the scheduled raid start time, with all necessary consumables and swap gear in their bags, fully repaired in game and fully focused in real life. They never miss a ready check due to distraction, and they always confirm their AFKs in advance. An Ascension raider would never dream of leaving a raid early when they signed-up for the full duration, because they know every boss attempt contributes to our kin progression.

THINKING BIG

Ascension’s raid leaders spend hours crafting strategies and planning class composition to achieve specific goals, yet still try to be fair and reasonable. Progression raiders recognize that being asked to sit out isn’t a decision their leaders make lightly, and they always accept raid composition decisions with grace and maturity. Likewise, they understand that progression often requires playing a boring role, testing obtuse mob behaviors, and a lot of wiping. Instead of zoning out, they take the opportunity to observe game mechanics and internalize the fight as a whole – that way, they’ll be better prepared for whatever role they need to play next time.

PLAYING SMALL

While raid awareness is important, a good raider focuses on ways to improve their own performance, rather than looking for flaws in the performance of their peers. They know that everyone learns at a difference pace and trust their teammates to play to the greatest of their abilities. When they see a teammate struggling, an Ascension raider thinks first of what they can do to provide support, and in the event they feel the need to offer a suggestion, they deliver it discretely and with the utmost respect.

KEEPING THINGS ORGANIZED

We know you’re the most amazing player of your class, and we all saw the way you destroyed that mob before it fully spawned, but right now, we need to focus on the fight. A seasoned raider understands the importance of keeping voice chat clear so that everyone can hear raid instructions, and they never panic, even when it feels like the fight is going off the rails. They respect the importance of following the raid leader’s strategy, and support it regardless of whether or not they think it will work. Oh, and that amazing parse they scored on the last attempt – didn’t even think of posting it to raid chat, because they’re that self-confident.

ACTING LIKE A TEAM

Ascension raiders know that the best teams are always stronger than the sum of their parts. They believe playing well together is more important than individual talent. Sacrificing their immediate goals, an Ascension raider prioritizes group success over personal achievement, understanding that although everyone can’t be the first to win a piece of loot, when we finally clear a progression goal, we all win together.

REMEMBERING WHY WE’RE HERE

Raiding is fun. Moreover, raiding is distinctively fun because you’re doing it with 11 of your kinmates. If you don’t agree with that statement, you probably shouldn’t be raiding in Ascension. If you’re raiding solely for loot, then you definitely shouldn’t be raiding progression. Progression raiders relish the opportunity to learn new content, even if it doesn’t result in a tangible improvement to their character build. They also appreciate the value of everyone’s enjoyment as direct driver of raid success, and in everything they do, strive to support and enhance the raid experience of their peers.

The clearer the picture, the better and nothing needs to be clearer in a raid than the health of the group and the boss, use this one for even more exact vitals than the game provides down to the decimal point and beyond.

The amount of information on the screen can be overwhelming, hard to see, or just plain difficult to keep track of at all times. This one will put all of that in one place to be viewed at a more convenient glance than moussing over a tiny icon
