re: Ascension Newsletter July 2017

Since the Previous Issue

We have retuned to full usage of the website for scheduling, planning, and events.

Mordor has concluded its 5th beta edition and likely will not receive a 6th.

Mordor has been given a release date; July 31st.

A few articles have been composed in anticipation of Mordor and our return to the website.

What to Expect

With Mordor comes a feel to the game many have never experienced before or at least not since the days of Isengard. Here are a few things to look out for with this update!

Updated Character Appearance

New Race; High Elf

New Crafting Tier; T11 Doomfold

New Areas; The Northwestern Third of Mordor will include the entirety of the plain of Gorgoroth divided into 5 new areas.

New Relics; Mordor and Alliance Relics that give a fresh feel to the power of your LIs

New LI Levels; Continue your legend and the legend of your weapons with another 10 levels per legacy per LI!

New Faction System; The Alliance or Allegiance system and anti-rep system will be making their debut in Mordor.

New Essence Setup; The days of 40 to 50 essences are gone and done with. While essences are still a major part of your builds, their number dwindles to 12 for a full set with new Mordor essences.

Talah-2 wrote: Raid Sign-Ups and Eligibility

If you want to be eligible to raid you have to add your characters.

To do this:

Sign in to your account.  If you don't have one please make one.

After you sign in, click on the top right side of the site on your name.  This will make a drop down box appear and from there choose "View your profile"

Once on your profile, there are options to the left side.  Choose "Games"

From here you will see two boxes.  One for Final Fantasy and the other Lord of the Rings Online.  Click on the "Add Characters" under the Lord of the Rings Picture.

You will see a bunch of boxes on this screen.

Game- Lord of the Rings Online

Server- Arkenstone

Character- Put your Characters Name in here

Level- 105 (or whatever level your character is)

Gender- This is the gender of your character

Race- Hobbit, Elf, Dwarf, etc.

Class- Burglar, Minstrel etc.

Now click on the Add button.

Your characters should be there for you to add.  I suggest adding your top 3 characters.

Once you have added your character please send an in game mail OR a mail on this site to Talah and I will be happy to add your character to the roster.  If you are having issues doing this please let me know.  Be patient we are trying to work out the bugs image

The race to 106, or better known as Mordor day one;

On the surface it seems rather pointless to race to 106 as there is no instance cluster or raid released with the expansion and a lot of people I am sure would rather invest their time in the High-Elf or in enjoying the game in a more old-school way now that we are back to a similar feel within the game. And normally those people would be right, were it not for a few things as yet unbeknownst to them. So let us dispense with the unknown and cover a few tips, tricks, and trivia bits to make Mordor day one as productive as possible.

This all starts with getting to 106. Your XP tomes and blue/rest XP should make this a short 10-15 min chore through Warg Pens. Now, while this itself is not unreasonable, the question is why? Why would someone want to spend their first bit of time in the Mordor expansion not in Mordor?

The short version is Light of Earendil is required to survive in Mordor. All of that gear with LoE is minimum level 106 requisite.

Q) But what is Light of Earendil?

A) Light of Earendil is a passive stat on gear that acts as a balance to a negative area stat called Shadow of Mordor. This negative stat applies a debuff to each person with a lower light total than landscape shadow. This debuff increases incoming damage, decreased outgoing healing and decreased outgoing damage substantially (10% more severe to each area per tier of the debuff). At a T4 shadow debuff it is possible to see people one-shot by enemies only a few levels above them. You will be able to see your light and shadow play out in a third vital bar beneath your main vitals. This bar yields a new tooltip upon mouse-over like so;

Q) Okay, so where do I get my first pieces of LoE gear?

A) The first few pieces will come from questing and bartering or treasure hunting. Depending on the quality of the gear, there will be a different amount of light per piece (2-10 light for armour and jewelry, 1-4 for weapons/shields). In truth however it will not be an easy task to get a full LoE set before you have to go past the first area of Mordor but it can be done. You will not get a full set by bartering or questing, but you might get enough of one through treasure hunting.

Q) You mean like those chests in almost every region now?

A) Yes but with a slight change. Mordor has two treasure hunting deeds per area. The first is the common chests and is no different that the chests in the rest of the game world. The second deed is the rare chest deed. This chest will almost always include a rare or incomparable (purple or teal) piece of gear that will be bind on equip. This chest will also include a pack of random T11 (Doomfold) crafting items. The first area has 5 of these chests. Between those chests and the AH, it should not be impossible to get a solid enough set for surviving up to T4 or T5 shadow. For Reference, here are some chest locations that you can use to get some of the gear. These are not all of the locations, only ones for Udun to help get started, you can find many more by clicking this link. This will also cover most of the exploration deeds for later parts of Mordor.

44.1S 0.1E

43.8S 0.6E

41.7S 4.0E

43.6S 8.7E

Q) That sounds like a headache, but you mentioned crafting, can't I just craft a full set of the new tier and be good?

A) Even though the gear has LoE on every piece and is easy enough to craft, it is all gated behind level 115 and therefore won't be much help until you get to that level. Beyond that, the essences you have worked so hard to build up through Ithilien and the Wastes are not usable in the Mordor gear.

Q) What if I cannot find enough gear to survive or if I don't want to use the gear I find?

A) Much if not all of the early Mordor areas are fully fellowship accessible, including the instances. If soloing the land where shadows lie is beyond you at the moment, grab a few fellows from kin and press on. We are for the first time in the history of the game, on the offensive. This is for all purposes an invasion of Mordor.

Q) What does that mean? An invasion of Mordor?

A) It is the introduction to the anti-rep system and the allegiance system. As well as tradition reputation factions to cap off. There will be guides for each of those posted later on.

Q) Okay, lets step back for a second you mentioned the Ithilien essences and how they cannot be used for Mordor gear. Why, and what are we looking at for this expansion's essence grind?

A) The only essences usable in Mordor at the time of beta were the Dark, Shaded, and Shadowed essences, these are the only essences able to be slotted into the gear from Mordor. Further there is a grand total of 12 essence slots on an entire set of gear (Armour/Jewelry/cloak). This puts a higher value on what exactly you slot and why as well as allows you to complete content at a decent rate without any essences. The lowest tier of which looks like;

Q) Are there new relics? And how do we get them?

A) There are new relics which are available for barter from different Mordor vendors and alliance vendors. The locations of the easier to get to Mordor vendors are;

Quartermaster in Udun Foothold (41.4S, 0.7W)
Quartermaster in Ruins of Dingarth (47.4S, 8.3E)
Quartermaster in Magh Ashtu (53.0S, 10.7E)
Quartermaster in Agarnaith Ranger Camp (56.5S, 27.0E)

These vendors require a special barter item know as a Silver Signet of the Thandrim.

These Signets are used to barter for relics like these;

which require 50 signets and kindred with the Conquest of Gorgoroth Faction.

Q) Okay... so what else can you tell me about Mordor Day One?

A) There is plenty more that won't fit into a short article. But for general questions, you can find the answers flushed out here in the U21 FAQ's. You can also find useful information on projected caps and the algorithms used to determine them here
